Important Information
Peak season and public holidays: Additional surcharges may apply to bookings during peak season or public holidays.
Drivers: Drivers must be age 21 or older and hold a valid driver's license that they have had for at least two years. If the licence is not in English, the driver must present an International Driving Permit (IDP) or an official English translation of their original licence
Permits: You must organise a vehicle and/or camping permit for K’gari online via QLD National Parks.
Ferry: Dingos cannot book your ferry transfers for you, so you must also book this in advance via Mantaray Barges.
Fuel: Your 4WD comes with a full tank of fuel, but you must refill the tank upon return. Failure to do so will incur an additional fee of $4 per litre.
Safety Briefing: The safety briefing is mandatory and will take up the first hour of your rental period. You must attend before you can drive the vehicle. The briefing will take place at the beach.
Insurance: All hire options include CTP (Compulsory Third Party) Insurance. It covers personal injury but not damage to vehicles or property. In case of an incident, there’s a standard $15,000 excess. We do offer options to reduce this, please see these options below:
- Play it Safe – $50/day (excess reduced to $2,500)
- Play it Safest – $75/day (excess reduced to $1,000)
Car cleaning: Vehicles must be returned in a reasonably clean condition. Extra cleaning fees up to $100 may apply if the vehicle needs to be re-cleaned.
Bond: The bond must be paid using a credit or debit card before vehicle pick-up. The bond is fully refundable within 5–10 business days after the vehicle is returned and inspected, provided there is no damage.
- No excess reduction selected: A $2,500 bond is required
- $50/day excess reduction selected: A $2,500 bond is required
- $75/day excess reduction selected: A $1,000 bond is required
- If any drivers are under the age of 25, a $2,500 bond applies, regardless of excess reduction taken.

Cancellations
All cancellations forfeit 25% of the recommended retail price (RRP) - not the discounted/sale price.
No shows or client cancellations made within 14 days of departure forfeit 100% of the total ticket price.
A refund in the event of cancellation is subject to both our Cancellation Policy and the terms of the supplier.

Frequently Asked Questions
What time can I pick up my 4WD?
The vehicle can be collected any time from 7am and must be dropped off before 5:30pm (late fees apply). Please meet one of our friendly team members outside Freedom Hostel in Rainbow Beach. Vehicle collections are by appointment only.
Where can we leave our personal car while we are on K'gari?
There is parking at Freedom Hostel in Rainbow Beach, however the vehicles are not monitored and it’s not secure parking, so it’s at your own risk.
Do we need national park permits?
Yes, you will need a vehicle permit for K'gari and a camping permit if you are camping. You can book these online via the QLD National Parks website.
Is car insurance included?
Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance is included in your 4WD hire. Optional upgrades for reduced excess or full cover are available.
Are there any age or license requirements?
Yes, drivers must be ages 21 or older. You must hold a valid drivers license and you must have held that license for at least two years. The license must be in English or come with an English translation.
Do we need 4WD driving experience?
No! There is a mandatory safety briefing that takes place at the beginning of your hire period. The Adventure 4WD Hire staff will cover their tips for driving on K’gari, as well as any additional safety information you might need.
Can we drive our 4WD elsewhere outside K'gari?
Yes, however the vehicle must not be taken outside a 30km radius from Rainbow Beach. A map will be provided, and you must notify us of where you are going in advance.
Is fuel provided?
When you pick up your vehicle it will have a full tank of fuel. You must re-fill the fuel tank before returning your 4WD (failure to do so will incur an additional fee of $4 per litre).
Is food provided?
Food is not included in your 4WD hire. Though there are a few supermarkets and restaurants on K’gari, we recommend bringing your own food from the mainland as it’s more affordable.
Is camping gear provided?
You can add-on a camping gear package, which is $30 per day. You can also bring your own camping gear if you prefer.
Can we stay in resort accommodation?
Yes! Camping is optional. If you prefer to stay in one of the island resorts, you can organise this separately with our team!
