What Is the Best way to see K'gari?

World Heritage-listed K'gari is the world's largest sand island! Located just 360km north of Brisbane. The only way to get around the world-famous K'gari is with a 4WD vehicle or by joining a tour.

We believe that the best way to explore the best of this beautiful Island at an affordable rate is to join a tour. The advantage of joining a tour is that everything will be taken care of for you - no need to worry about ferry schedules, meals, permits etc.

When joining a tour, you will meet your group on the mainland and travel to the island together, so this is a great way to meet like-minded travellers.  K'gari tours come in many variations, from day trips to overnight 2 or 3-day adventures. Depending on the tour you choose, your pick-up location may be in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Noosa, Rainbow Beach or Hervey Bay. When choosing your location, it is best to look at the pick-up times from each.

As K'gari is the biggest sand island in the world, we recommend a 3-day adventure.  This gives you the chance to visit the top destinations, such as Lake Birrabeen, Central Station, and Champagne Pools which you would not get to experience in just one day.

While the summer months are obviously the warmest, they will also be the most crowded. We recommend going in the shoulder season so you can enjoy warmer temperatures without the crowds. Prices are generally cheaper in the low season too!
