How do you get to Fraser Island?
Fraser Island is accessible by sea or by air. Holidaymakers, tourists or visitors can grab a ferry from Hervey Bay or Rainbow Beach, or you can fly to the island in a plane and land on the beach itself to start your adventure!
For practical reasons, most people visiting the island opt to take the ferry route since they wish to take their vehicle to the island or have joined a guided or tag-along tour. Ferries depart from Hervey Bay and head to Kingfisher Bay or Wanggoolba Creek or from Rainbow Beach to Hook Point on Fraser Island.
If you choose to drive to the island yourself you can choose from the following ferry times (subject to change):
Hervey Bay - Kingfisher Bay departures:
Daily at 6:45am, 9:00am, 12:30pm, 3:30pm and 6:45pm
Kingfisher Bay - Hervey Bay departures:
Daily at 7:50 am, 10:30am, 2:00pm, 5:00pm and 8:30pm
Hervey Bay - Wanggoolba Creek departures:
Daily at 8:30 am, 10:15 am and 4:00 pm
Wanggoolba Creek - Hervey Bay departures:
Daily at 9:00 am, 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm
Rainbow Beach - Hook Point departures:
Operates daily from 6:00am - 5:15pm

Hook Point - Rainbow Beach departures:
Operates daily from 6:00am - 5:15pm

If you choose to join a guided or tag-along tour to Fraser Island you will meet your tour group on the mainland and head to the island together. This will eliminate the need to meet on Fraser Island and worry about ferry schedules, as everything will be taken care of for you! Different tours have different pickup and meet up points, but all tours will depart from either Hervey Bay or Rainbow Beach. Be aware of your pickup times and tour departure times and you will have everything you will need for your Fraser Island adventure.
