8 School Holiday Activities on K'gari (Fraser Island)
Besides being the ultimate family camping destination with endless swimming holes and giant sand dunes to explore, there are plenty of activities to keep kids entertained on K'gari during the school holidays. Here are 10 school holiday activities for fun and adventure on K'gari!
1. Float down Eli Creek
Eli Creek is one of the most popular places to visit on K'gari and it is the perfect place for families to spend the day. Bring your own a bunch of giant inflatable animals for hours of fun floating down the creek and set up the BBQ on the bank for lunch.
2. Go Wildlife Spotting
K'gari is home to many native Australian animals such as goannas, kangaroos, kookaburras and echidnas. Families can pump for yabbies in the freshwater lakes, spot whales and dolphins in the ocean and watch the armies of Soldier Crabs scuttle across the beach. You may even see a dingo or two but just remember these animals are best viewed from afar (click here for dingo safety tips).

The Champagne Pools are unique rock pools which bubble and foam when seawater washes over the edge. Take a day trip to the Pools to enjoy a natural jacuzzi with an amazing view. The Champagne Pools offer the only safe place for a saltwater swim on the island.
5. Get Competitive with Resort Sports
Many resorts on K'gari offer the complimentary use of sporting equipment to guests. A friendly game of beach cricket is always great fun or volleyball, soccer or tennis may be more your family’s style.
During the school holidays, Kingfisher Bay Resort also runs group sporting matches which are always fun for all.
6. Become a Laser Warrior
Dress in camouflage and spend an intense two hours in the mock-bushland battlefield behind the Kingfisher Bay Resort playing laser skirmish. This is a fun non-contact sport that will have you ducking, weaving and squealing as you try to avoid the laser beams of your opponents to become the ultimate warriors! Laser skirmish is suitable for ages 7 and up.
7. Fish from the Beach
Beach gutters in front of the Eurong Beach Resort and Cathedrals on Fraser offer some of the best fishing on the island. Fish for whiting and bream during the warmer months and tailor from May to October. Swallowtail, tarwhine and mulloway are among some of the other species you’ll have fun reeling in!
8. Paddle a Canoe
Join an experienced Ranger on an easy one hour paddle from the Jetty to stunning Dundonga Creek and learn all about the local ecosystem. There is plenty of wildlife spotting on this tour - sea birds and birds of prey saw high above and fish, turtles and rays swim by as you paddle through the calm waters. If you’re lucky you may even see a dugong!
