Fraser Island Top Instagram Locations
Fraser Island is full of amazing Instagam worthy places. The world’s largest sand island has got it going on in terms of beauty and is one of the best places in the world to snap some Insta shots. Picture blue lakes, dazzling sands, wild animals, flowing creeks and towering forests - it’s a would-be photographers dream and will add a pop of wild to your ‘gram.
Whales
Fraser Island is the whale watching capital of Australia. The waters surrounding the island act as a homestead for migrating whales that pass by the island on an annual basis. You can see humpback whales from various places on the island (and mainland, especially in Hervey Bay). If you can get one of these gentle giants flipping or flopping out of the water, you’ll have a winner for Instagram for sure.
Lake McKenzie
Lake McKenzie is the crowed jewel of Fraser Island. Found in the heart of the island, it’s a huge freshwater lake of amazing clarity and stunning surroundings. Photo opportunities here are limitless with stark white sands, cool blue waters, bright skies and green trees. You’ll want to grab photos here in and out of the water, so if you have a waterproof camera, it’s even better!
Wanggoolba Creek
Your Instagram will look like it’s gone back in time as you make your way to Wanggoolba Creek. This Jurassic looking creek is found near central station and creates the feeling of absolute wildness and timelessness. The running creek, towering trees and filtered sunlight will perfectly capture the atmosphere for you to share with the social media world.
Indian Head
Indian Head is the premier lookout point on Fraser Island. You (and your followers) can enjoy panoramic views of the island and surrounding ocean as you take in the view from the top. You can see up and down the beach and also enjoy the crashing ocean far below, maybe even spotting turtles, rays, sharks or whales! This site will allow you to capture the immensity of the island as you pose in front of the shoreline at the top of the lookout.
Champagne Pools
The Champagne Pools are one of the more unique attractions on the island, where nature has created jacuzzi-like pools! These seaside pools are best enjoyed at water level, but you can snap some amazing photos from the boardwalk as you make your way down and share the experience with your followers. As waves crash into the naturally formed rock pools, they create a champagne-like feeling that’ll leave you feeling invigorated and relaxed at the same time!
SS Maheno Shipwreck
The SS Maheno is Fraser Island’s resident shipwreck and an awesome place for grabbing photos. The rusted hull sits on the shore, creating a beautiful backdrop for anyone visiting the island. You can stand in front of the once-grand ship as the waves crash through the dilapidated portholes and share a piece of history with your friends!
Eli Creek
Eli Creek is the most popular and well-known creek on the island. It’s best enjoyed from a floating position as you make your way down through the trees and out onto the beach. If you have a waterproof camera or GoPro, bring it along - you’ll want to capture this place. Our recommendation is to bring along a colourful floatie for an extra pop to capture the eye of anyone on your ‘gram.
Dingoes
Fraser Island has a resident dingo population, which are often spotted by visitors. As dingoes are an Australian icon, they would be the perfect addition to your Insta page. Photos of these curious critters and best captured at sunrise when you can enjoy their beauty with a stunning colourful backdrop! This way, you can share a little part of Fraser Island with friends and family back home.
