K’gari (Fraser Island) is a travel destination famously known for its wide sandy beaches that permit unlimited 4x4ing. Not only is the island dazzling with golden sands, it is also home to rainforests, lakes and rivers - and not to mention - incredible Australian wildlife. 

Pile Valley is home to the beautiful ancient rainforest that surrounds Central Station at the historic heart of K'gari (Fraser Island).

If you’re visiting Rainbow Beach and have a 4WD there are some excellent places where you can drive along the sand. Aside from the remarkable coloured sands that the area is famous for, driving along Rainbow Beach will give you access to kilometres of pristine coastline with barely another person in sight, excellent inshore fishing, Double Island Point and Lighthouse and some of the best beachside campsites in Australia.

With its subtropical climate and temperatures averaging 28 degrees Celcius in summer and 21 degrees Celcius in winter, Fraser Island is perfect for exploring all year round. The ideal time to visit for travellers who prefer a relatively dry climate is between May and September (September being the driest month) - but when can you expect the most rain on K'gari?

Heading to Fraser Island from Rainbow Beach? If you're self-driving over to Fraser Island, you'll have to arrange your own national park permits before heading.
