How to get to Wongi Sandblow
Wongi Sandblow is only accessible via walking trails from either Dilli Village or Lake Boomanjin. K'gari's roads don't take you right up to the sandblow, as the island is still very wild and remote and much of the wilderness is untouched or inaccessible. Hiking along the K'gari Great Walk from Dilli Village
You can get to the magnificent Wongi Sandblow via the K'gari Great Walk. This epic trail is 90km in total and generally takes around 7-8 days to complete, but you can just walk small sections of it as well. Those who choose to tackle the entire trail are in for the adventure of a lifetime as they trek through the dense wilderness of K'gari!
To reach Wongi Sandblow via the K'gari Great Walk, you can follow the trail from Dilli Village. The walk from Dilli Village to Wongi Sandblow and back is about 8.3km return, which will probably take around 3-4 hours. Be sure to have good walking shoes and pack plenty of water for the hike.
Hiking along the K'gari Great Walk from Lake Boomanjin
If you're following the K'gari Great Walk, you'll start at Dilli Village and then reach the Wongi Sandblow. Following the track beyond the sandblow, the next major landmark you'll reach is Lake Boomanjin. So another option is to park your 4WD at Lake Boomanjin and then hike to Wongi Sandblow from there. This walk is about 4.2km return and takes only 1.5-2 hours total.
This is a fun way to experience Wongi Sandblow because once you finish the hike, you'll return back to Lake Boomanjin where you can reward yourself with a refreshing swim. Lake Boomanjin is the largest perched lake on the island and is known for its slightly red tinge that it gets from the surrounding tea trees. But don't let the colours deter you from swimming, Lake Boomanjin is incredibly clean and refreshing.
Self-drive 4WD adventures on K'gari
Whether you're hoping to see Wongi Sandblow as you take on the K'gari Great Walk, or you're just looking for fun things to do on the island, you'll need a 4WD for your time on K'gari. The island is only accessible with a 4WD, so you'll have to either bring your own or hire one. Do any K'gari tours visit Wongi Sandblow?
Wongi Sandblow is not included on any guided group tours of K'gari (Fraser Island). It's simply not a very touristy spot, especially compared to the Hammerstone Sandblow which has similar scenery. Many guided tours visit the Hammerstone Sandblow, as it's right next to the stunning Lake Wabby. Plus, the walk to get here is only about 30 minutes, so it's more accessible for most tourists.
